Amurrio features medieval history and the Salto del Nervión waterfall
Amurrio, located in the heart of the Ayala Valley in the Basque Country, is a municipality characterized by its historical connection between the Castilian Plateau and Cantabrian towns. The area features a medieval heritage visible through various tower houses and its history within the Lordship of Ayala.
A primary natural attraction is the Salto del Nervión, the highest waterfall in the Iberian Peninsula with a 222-meter drop. Visitors can access the area via the Senda de Delika, a 14-kilometer route following the Nervión River, or through a shorter 1.8-kilometer path from the Fuente Santiago parking area that leads to a metal walkway overlooking the falls.
Nearby historical sites include Orduña, known for its large porticoed Plaza Foral and the Santa María fortress-church, and the medieval town of Artziniega.
