Amy Dowden credits Carlos Gu for returning to dance after cancer

Welsh professional dancer Amy Dowden, who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in May 2023 and underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and fertility treatment, says fellow Strictly Come Dancing partner Carlos Gu convinced her not to quit dancing. After being forced to leave the 2024 Strictly series and feeling “at an ultimate low,” Dowden credits Gu’s “tough love” and encouragement for restoring her confidence. The pair now appear together in the Celebrity Hunted series, which raises funds for Stand Up To Cancer and aims to show the realities of life after a cancer diagnosis.
