Amy Goodman Documentary Shows Independent Journalism in Action

The documentary *Steal This Story, Please!* chronicles the four‑decade career of journalist Amy Goodman, founder of the independent news program Democracy Now!. Produced and directed by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal, the film follows Goodman’s on‑the‑ground reporting—from climate summits in Katowice to conflict zones—highlighting her refusal to accept advertising, sponsorship or government funding. It underscores her belief that journalism should not be tied to weapons manufacturers or fossil‑fuel interests.

Screenings and discussions are planned in the United Kingdom and other venues, emphasizing the film’s message that “when we cover war or climate catastrophe we are not brought to you by the weapons or oil companies.” The documentary features confrontations such as Goodman’s attempt to interview a Trump climate adviser who evaded her, illustrating the challenges independent reporters face.
