Amy Hunt wins four gold medals at European Athletics Championships

British sprinter Amy Hunt made history at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham by winning four gold medals. Her victories included the 100m, 200m, women’s 4x100m relay, and the mixed 4x100m relay, making her the first athlete to achieve such a feat at a single European Championship.

While Hunt celebrated her unprecedented success, the championships saw contrasting results for other nations. Slovakian athlete Emma Zapletalová secured a historic gold medal for Slovakia. Conversely, the Czech Republic experienced its worst performance in post-war history at the event, failing to win a single medal. Czech head coach Pavel Sluka attributed the team's lack of success to inadequate final preparations and a lack of experience among the coaching staff.

Hunt, a Cambridge University student, noted that her confidence and outspoken ambition were key to her performance. She celebrated her achievement with champagne and KFC before preparing for upcoming competitions in Lausanne.
