Amy Madigan joins cast of Sony baseball film ‘The Comebacker’

Oscar winner Amy Madigan has joined the cast of ‘The Comebacker’, a new Sony film centered on the world of baseball. The production features Tom Hanks and Callum Turner.

Based on a short story by Dave Eggers, the plot follows a young New York Mets pitcher, played by Turner, whose life is disrupted after being struck by a batted ball. Madigan will portray the team owner, while Hanks will play the team’s pitching coach. Patricia Clarkson is set to play the coach’s wife.

Marielle Heller is directing the film from her own screenplay. Production is scheduled to begin in New York this fall. The project is being produced by Playtone, Defiant By Nature, and Working Barn, in cooperation with Major League Baseball and the Mets.
