Amy Okonkwo signs hardship contract with Portland Fire
Nigerian forward Amy Okonkwo has signed a rest-of-season hardship contract with the WNBA’s Portland Fire. She joins the team as a replacement player under the Season-Ending Injury Exception following several injuries to the roster, including a season-ending ACL injury to Sarah Ashlee Barker.
Okonkwo, the captain of the Nigerian national team (D’Tigress), previously played for the Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings. She is a two-time AfroBasket MVP, having recently led Nigeria to its fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title. She is currently preparing with the national squad for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
