Amylyx Pharmaceuticals stock surges on successful clinical trial and $500M offering

Amylyx Pharmaceuticals saw its stock price increase by nearly 79% over a five-day period following positive results from a Phase 3 clinical trial. The trial evaluated avexitide, a GLP-1 medication designed to treat post-bariatric hypoglycemia. The drug met its primary endpoint, showing a 55% reduction in severe hypoglycemic events compared to a placebo, and met all secondary endpoints. As there are currently no FDA-approved treatments for this disorder, the results led to several analyst price target increases, including a lift from Guggenheim.

In conjunction with the clinical news, Amylyx announced an upsized $500 million underwritten public offering of common stock. The company priced 14,090,000 shares at $35.50 per share, with underwriters holding an option for additional shares. The net proceeds are intended to fund pre-commercial activities for avexitide, such as securing manufacturing capacity, as well as research, development, and general working capital.
