Amyntaio Municipality addresses school safety and structural integrity

During a special accountability session of the Amyntaio Municipal Council on October 21, local authorities addressed concerns regarding the safety and maintenance of school buildings and municipal infrastructure. Questions were raised by the People's Rally party concerning structural adequacy, fire protection, and boiler maintenance.

According to municipal councilor Kyriakos Eleftheriadis, studies regarding fire protection measures have been ongoing since 2022 and have faced multiple extensions. Data indicated that 11 school buildings were constructed before 1955, four contain unauthorized structures, and one school in Agios Panteleimon is characterized as entirely unauthorized. Additionally, four schools were noted to have incomplete documentation.

In response, Deputy Mayor of Technical Services Ioannis Avramidis stated that primary seismic inspections for 100% of the municipality's school units were completed by the summer of 2026. All municipal buildings have been recorded on the platform of the Organization for Seismic Planning and Protection (OASP), with inspection results available at the Technical Services department.
