Amyr Klink: New film explores 1984 Atlantic crossing

The film ‘100 Dias’, directed by Carlos Saldanha, premiered at the closing gala of the Rio Film Festival. Inspired by the book ‘Cem dias entre o céu e o mar’, the live-action production depicts navigator Amyr Klink’s 1984 solo rowing journey across the South Atlantic.

Director Carlos Saldanha noted that the film aims to balance the epic scale of the Atlantic Ocean with an intimate look at Klink’s personal motivations and family connections. The production features visual effects to portray encounters with whales, sharks, and violent storms.

Separately, Amyr Klink has reflected on his legacy, criticizing modern trends that prioritize immediate success and public image over the actual experience of a journey. Klink cited the recent solo rowing feat of Raphael Garcia—who traveled from Namibia to Salvador without sponsorships or social media—as a validation of the philosophy that the process and effort should precede public recognition.
