AMZS warns of unsafe Britax Römer and Axkid child car seats

The Automobile-Moto Association of Slovenia (AMZS) has issued a warning regarding two child car seat models that failed recent safety crash tests. The organization strongly advises against purchasing the Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro (used with the Vario Base 5Z ISOFIX base) and the Axkid Minikid Core.

During testing of the Britax Römer infant carrier in a reclined position, the seat belt buckle failed and broke, causing an 11-kilogram test doll to be ejected from the seat. AMZS rated the protection in this configuration as ‘bad’ due to the high risk of severe injury. However, the carrier provided adequate protection when used in a more upright position or when installed using a three-point vehicle belt instead of the ISOFIX base.

The Axkid Minikid Core, designed for children between 40 and 125 cm, also failed testing. In a frontal collision involving a 23-kilogram test doll, the seat moved forward and the plastic frame struck the testing apparatus.

Britax Römer stated they were surprised by the results, noting that previous internal tests had not revealed similar issues. The manufacturer has not yet decided on a recall or modification.
