An Giang fraud ring arrested over 300 billion dong black‑coin scam
The An Giang provincial police announced the arrest of Nguyen Boi Ngoc and five accomplices for a fraud scheme that offered a purported "black coin" Buddha statue claimed to be worth 300 billion dong. The conspirators used social‑media accounts to lure a buyer, N.D. K, to Tri Tôn district, where they staged a fake miracle at Lake Tà Pạ, swapped the statue’s glass and thermometer with prepared props and convinced him to pay a 300 million dong deposit. After receiving the money, the group divided the proceeds and fled. The investigation also led to the prosecution of La Thị Kim Phương, born 2000, for possessing property obtained from the crime. Police acted within 24 hours, detaining all suspects and continuing the case under criminal code provisions for fraud and possession of stolen assets.
