An Se-young nears 100 weeks as world No. 1 badminton star

South Korean badminton star An Se-young is approaching a major milestone, nearing 100 consecutive weeks as the world No. 1 in women's singles. According to the Badminton World Federation rankings, An has held the top spot for 96 weeks and is mathematically assured to reach the 100-week mark within the next four weeks, regardless of her performance in upcoming tournaments.

An is currently preparing for the BWF World Championships in New Delhi. Despite her dominant ranking, she revealed she is managing a lingering injury in her left foot that previously forced her withdrawal from the Japan Open in July. While acknowledging the pain is bearable, she expressed concerns regarding how the injury might affect her movement and match rhythm.

An currently holds a significant points lead over second-ranked Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and third-ranked Wang Zhiyi of China. Her ranking is supported by a series of tournament victories, including two Super 1000 titles and the Asian Championships.
