Ana Brnabić invites European Parliament to observe Serbian elections

Ana Brnabić, the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament and acting head of state, has requested that the European Parliament send an observer delegation to the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25.

According to reports from European Parliament staff, the Parliament is prepared to dispatch a seven-member delegation to Serbia, with plans for the observers to arrive on October 22. This request follows reports that Serbian authorities had not yet sent the necessary official invitation, despite the approval of a seven-member delegation. The European Parliament has indicated it will wait until Monday for a response to the request.

The mission follows the pattern of the December 2023 elections, where European Parliament representatives joined the international observation mission led by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The ODIHR has already begun preparations for the October 25 elections, organizing a central team of 14 experts and 30 long-term observers.
