Ana Carmen Sosa Cravioto arrested in Argentina
Ana Carmen Sosa Cravioto, daughter of former Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH) rector Gerardo Sosa Castelán, was arrested at El Plumerillo International Airport in Mendoza, Argentina. The arrest, carried out by Interpol and the Argentine Airport Security Police (PSA), occurred as she was attempting to board a flight to Chile.
Sosa Cravioto was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued by Mexico’s Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) in 2020. She faces charges of organized crime and money laundering involving approximately 58.2 million pesos. Investigations suggest she and her sister, Adriana Sosa Cravioto, were part of a financial structure used to divert funds from the UAEH through shell companies.
Following her initial detention, her legal team successfully petitioned for house arrest while the Mexican government proceeds with extradition requests. Reports indicate she had been residing in Mendoza since late 2023, engaging in business activities such as wine exportation and local dance performances.
