Ana Elisa Santos Silva cancels trip due to security concerns
Ana Elisa Santos Silva, an elected federal deputy for the Workers' Party (PT), announced she will not attend a party event in São Paulo following security recommendations. She described the current environment in Minas Gerais as “very hostile.”
The 21-year-old lawmaker has previously reported receiving death threats, threats of sexual violence, and racist attacks during and after her electoral campaign. She noted that one perpetrator identified as a member of a white supremacist group also threatened her family. Due to the frequency of these attacks, which she claimed occurred every two minutes, she deactivated her account on the social media platform X.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has requested that the Federal Police open an investigation into the threats directed at her.
