Ana Elisa Santos Silva receives protection after violent threats

Ana Elisa Santos Silva, a 21-year-old newly elected federal deputy from Minas Gerais representing the Workers' Party (PT), is receiving state protection following a surge in violent threats. The deputy-elect reported receiving death, rape, and racist threats on social media, stating that messages were arriving as frequently as every two minutes.

In response, the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship has requested the Minas Gerais State Protection Program to coordinate with intelligence agencies and conduct a risk analysis. The deputy-elect deactivated her account on X (formerly Twitter) due to the intensity of the attacks.

Investigations are being sought through the Federal Police to identify the perpetrators. Some reports indicate that an email sent in September identified the sender as a member of a white supremacist group. Additionally, the deputy-elect has addressed controversies regarding past social media posts, with her team clarifying that many were made when she was 17 and requesting forensic verification for certain disputed content.
