Ana María Stuven Vattier awarded Chile's National History Prize 2026

Ana María Stuven Vattier has been awarded the 2026 National History Prize in Chile. The jury granted the award unanimously, recognizing her contributions to renewing Chilean political and intellectual history.

Her work is noted for incorporating dimensions such as religion, social order, culture, and specifically the role of women in the construction of public life. Education Minister María Paz Arzola highlighted Stuven’s influence in training multiple generations of specialists who continue her intellectual agenda.

Stuven, a historian with degrees from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the University of Chile, and a doctorate from Stanford University, expressed that she accepts the honor with a “sense of responsibility.” She emphasized the social and cultural importance of the humanities and noted that despite progress, gender gaps and the need for substantive equality remain.
