Ana Miranda condemns EU deportation regulation as fascist

Eurodeputy Ana Miranda of the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) voted against the European Parliament’s new Return Regulation, describing it as "shameful" and "fascist." The regulation, passed with the support of Spain’s People’s Party (PP) and other right‑wing groups, tightens rules for the removal of migrants arriving in EU member states, extends detention periods and authorises the creation of "return centres" in third countries.

Miranda warned that the measure breaches international human‑rights law, criminalises migration, and could lead to the establishment of concentration‑like facilities. She accused the PP, its leader Alberto Feijóo and the European Commission president Ursula Rueda of being complicit in the dehumanisation of migrants, stressing that "migration is not a crime" and urging the EU to halt what she called a drift toward extremist policies.

The BNG pledged to continue defending the dignified and humane treatment of migrants and to challenge the regulation in the European Parliament.
