Anabasis Way to become a new tourism route in Maçka
The historic Anabasis Way, which dates back approximately 2,400 years, is being developed into a new tourism route for hiking and nature activities in the Maçka district of Trabzon. Local officials, including Maçka District Governor Şahin Demir and Mayor Koray Koçhan, recently inspected key locations such as the İskobel and Kofrakol plateaus.
According to Mayor Koçhan, the route is believed to be the location where the 'Ten Thousand' army, as described in Xenophon's 'Anabasis', first viewed the sea. The section passing through Maçka provides a continuous 30-kilometer walking path that combines historical significance with natural beauty.
A collaborative project involving the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Maçka District Governorate, and the Maçka Municipality is currently underway. The initiative aims to establish camping areas and trekking paths, with the goal of having the route fully operational by next year. The Kofrakol Plateau is noted for providing a bird's-eye view of the Sümela Monastery.
