Anacapri goats to be transferred to Agropoli

The administration of Anacapri has decided to transfer the goat population from Monte Solaro to a private facility in Agropoli to protect the island's environmental and landscape heritage. The decision follows reports of significant damage to local flora, walls, and infrastructure caused by the growing herd.

Mayor Franco Cerrotta announced that the municipality has abandoned previous plans for sterilization after unidentified individuals allegedly cut fences and released male goats, hindering the project. The transfer is being treated as an urgent matter, and the administration has requested the Asl Napoli 1 to define the necessary sanitary procedures and timelines.

While the mayor has guaranteed that the animals will receive adequate care and that no slaughtering will occur, the move has faced opposition. Consumer associations and groups like Change have criticized the plan, with some calling the relocation a ‘deportation’ and advocating for controlled freedom and on-site veterinary assistance instead.
