Minas Gerais industry faces rising costs and labor shifts
Industrial confidence in Minas Gerais has risen to 48 points in October, according to the Fiemg Industrial Entrepreneur Confidence Index (ICEI-MG). While expectations have returned to optimistic territory for the first time in eight months, the overall assessment of current economic conditions remains unfavorable.
Flávio Roscoe, president of Fiemg, has called for adjustments to social programs following the implementation of a new 40-hour work week. He warned that the reduction from 44 hours, combined with labor shortages, could drive up prices for goods and services in sectors like retail and hospitality, potentially reducing consumer purchasing power.
Simultaneously, energy costs continue to pose a significant challenge to investment. Studies indicate that rising energy prices account for nearly half of the inflation in investment goods in Brazil. In the energy sector, Aneel estimates that consumer-funded expenses for the Energy Development Account (CDE) will reach approximately R$ 47.8 billion in 2027 under a new federal spending cap, representing relative stability compared to previous years.
