Anadolu Otoyolu privatization could hike tolls by 460%, claims deputy

Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, a Zonguldak deputy for the YENİ Party, has warned that the privatization of the KGM Anadolu Otoyol, which connects Istanbul and Ankara, could lead to a massive increase in toll fees.

Yavuzyılmaz claims that if the 379-kilometer highway is privatized, current tolls could rise from 338 TL to as much as 1,890 TL, representing a potential increase of up to 460%.

To support this projection, Yavuzyılmaz compared the current public-operated rate of 0.89 TL per kilometer on the Anadolu Otoyolu to the rate on the nearby Kuzey Marmara Otoyolu, which operates under a Build-Operate-Transfer model and costs 4.96 TL per kilometer. He argued that the privatization plan would impose a significant financial burden on citizens.
