Anadolu University employee develops low-cost motorized wheelchair attachment

Recep Çetin, an employee at Anadolu University in Eskişehir, has developed a custom electric motor attachment for his wheelchair to improve mobility. Çetin, who became paralyzed following an elevator accident 30 years ago, designed and built the device at a cost of 15,000 TL.

While similar motorized wheelchair systems available abroad are estimated to cost between 150,000 TL and 200,000 TL, Çetin completed his project by working approximately three hours a day for 15 days. The innovation allows him to move more quickly and efficiently during his daily activities.

Anadolu University Rector, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Adıgüzel, met with Çetin to inspect the device and offered suggestions regarding lighting systems and safety. The Rector also presented Çetin with a helmet to ensure safe use of the new motorized vehicle.
