ANAF launches nationwide inspections of 180 currency exchange offices

The Romanian Tax Administration (ANAF), through its Fiscal Anti-Fraud General Directorate (DGAF), has launched ‘Operation F.O.C.U.S.’ (Fiscalization of Operations and Compliance of Exchange Units). This large-scale, simultaneous nationwide inspection targets 180 currency exchange offices across various counties and Bucharest.

The operation follows a recent pilot project that revealed high levels of fiscal non-compliance among selected operators. Inspectors are focusing on the fiscalization of exchange transactions, the correct use of electronic fiscal marking devices, and ensuring that actual operations match tax and accounting records.

Additionally, authorities are verifying declarative and payment obligations to prevent revenue loss and ensure fair competition. Legal measures will be applied to any operators found in violation of the law, with final results to be announced once the national data centralization is complete.
