Anaheim Drops Proposed Rideshare Tax for Disneyland and Platinum Triangle

Anaheim City Council voted not to place a 10% tax on Uber and Lyft trips to the Disneyland Resort district and the surrounding Platinum Triangle on the November ballot. The proposal, which would have added about $2 per ride and generated roughly $3.6 million in annual general‑fund revenue, was halted amid concerns that it would burden resort workers who rely on rideshares for commuting. Mayor Ashleigh Aitken directed staff to further study the measure, while Councilmember Carlos Leon warned that the added cost could add up to $30 a week for employees. Lyft and Uber opposed the tax, arguing it would raise costs for riders and could shift trips to private cars, increasing traffic congestion. The council’s decision follows a broader regional push by municipalities to consider new taxes after recent budget shortfalls.
