Anaheim Ducks acquire prospect Cruz Lucius from Pittsburgh Penguins

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired the signing rights to forward prospect Cruz Lucius from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for future considerations.

Lucius, a 22-year-old forward who played four seasons in the NCAA for the University of Wisconsin and Arizona State University, previously declined to sign an entry-level contract with the Penguins. The trade follows complexities regarding his collegiate eligibility and status.

During his most recent season at Arizona State, Lucius recorded 15 goals and 46 points in 36 games, earning a spot on the NCHC’s First All-Star Team. Once Lucius submits paperwork to the NHL’s Central Registry indicating he is no longer an undergraduate student, the Ducks will hold his rights for 30 days. If he signs, he is expected to begin his professional career, potentially with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.
