Anaheim Ducks sign Tristan Luneau to $43.2M extension
The Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Tristan Luneau to a six-year contract extension worth $43.2 million. The deal, which averages $7.2 million per year, is noted as the largest contract ever given to a player with only 14 NHL games of experience.
Luneau, 22, was a second-round draft pick in 2022 and previously played for the Ducks’ AHL affiliate in San Diego. While his professional career has been impacted by injuries, including a viral infection during his time with Canada’s national junior team, the Ducks organization views him as a future top-four defenseman.
General Manager Pat Verbeek stated that securing the long-term deal before the season began was a priority for the team’s future planning. Luneau is expected to play a significant role on the Ducks' blue line this season, potentially joining Jackson LaCombe on the top pairing.
