Anahtar Parti leader proposes free school meals for students
Yavuz Ağıralioğlu, leader of the Anahtar Parti, has proposed a program to provide free and healthy meals to students in schools, starting from preschool. He noted that economic conditions have created inequality, with some students attending school with nutritious lunches while others go hungry.
Ağıralioğlu estimated the program would cost approximately 150 billion lira, which he stated represents less than 1 percent of the central government budget and about two-thousandths of Turkey's annual national income. The proposed plan includes menus with protein, vegetables, and fruit.
To support the initiative, the plan aims to involve local farmers and cooperatives, utilizing local production and geographically indicated products to create a new market for producers while ensuring students have access to healthy food.
