Çanakkale Airport conducts CBRN emergency drill

Çanakkale Airport held a comprehensive Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) drill to test emergency response capabilities. The exercise followed a scenario where a 1-liter chemical substance leaked from a passenger's suitcase on an international arrivals baggage belt.

Upon detection, a red alert was issued via radio and telephone, triggering a coordinated response from AFAD, UMKE, police, airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) teams, and medical services. The drill involved evacuating terminal passengers to assembly areas and establishing a command center at a safe distance.

Specialized AFAD detector teams wearing gas-tight suits entered the baggage hall to evacuate simulated casualties, including two 'red code' passengers with loss of consciousness and five 'yellow code' passengers. Following decontamination with solutions and water, the casualties were handed over to UMKE and 112 emergency medical teams. The exercise concluded successfully after follow-up measurements confirmed the area was clean.

Participants included 30 ARFF personnel, 22 AFAD staff, 15 medical personnel, 5 police officers, 5 firefighters, 5 Çanakkale Naval Air Base personnel, 3 Çelebi Hava Servisi employees, and 24 students.
