Çanakkale court transfers Tuğba Yavaş death case to Heavy Penal Court
A court in Çanakkale has transferred the investigation into the death of restorer Tuğba Yavaş to the Heavy Penal Court. The case involves allegations of intentional killing of a spouse.
The incident occurred on October 30, 2024, when 39-year-old Tuğba Yavaş fell from a fifth-floor balcony onto a parked motorcycle in the Kepez district. Despite medical intervention at Mehmet Akif Ersoy State Hospital, she passed away.
Following the investigation, Tuğba Yavaş's husband, Professor Dr. Alptekin Yavaş, was initially charged with 'inducing another to commit suicide.' However, during the seventh hearing at the 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, the court issued a decision of non-jurisdiction. The case file has been sent to the Çanakkale Duty Heavy Penal Court to be tried under the charge of 'intentional killing of a spouse.' The court also ordered an on-site discovery (inspection) of the scene, while the defendant will continue to be tried without arrest.
