Çanakkale initiatives promote reading culture through local projects
Various literacy and reading initiatives are being launched in the Çanakkale region of Turkey to foster a culture of reading among students and the general public.
Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) has launched the “My Library is Improving” project. This social responsibility campaign aims to enrich the library of Cumhuriyet Middle School by collecting book donations. The project seeks to support educational equality and provide students with access to diverse publications approved by the Ministry of National Education. Donations can be made by university staff, students, and the local community at the ÇOMÜ Terzioğlu Campus.
In the Gökçeada district, District Governor Osman Acar is leading the “I am Reading, Gökçeada is Reading” movement. This project brings together various segments of society, including youth, adults, sports clubs, and public institutions, to encourage continuous reading habits. The initiative includes weekly themed events and discussions to transform reading into a shared social activity and establish a permanent reading culture on the island.
