Çanakkale Jandarma arrests 83 suspects and tackles forest fire damage

The Çanakkale Provincial Gendarmerie Command carried out extensive peace operations from 27 July to 2 August, checking 270 public businesses, 108 abandoned buildings, 102 parks and gardens and 75 cafés. Identity checks were performed on 58,786 people and 57,415 vehicles were inspected, leading to the arrest of 83 suspects. After judicial processing, 11 of those detainees were ordered to be held in prison.

From 1 June to 3 August, 44 forest fires burned an estimated 541,289 hectares in the province. The gendarmerie’s public‑information campaign covered all 12 districts, involving 178 teams and 742 personnel who distributed 1,300 posters and 7,500 brochures. They also notified 1,315 agricultural operators and farmers, issued 23 administrative fines totalling 85,215 lira, and detained 41 individuals linked to rural‑area fires.
