Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University professor reinstated amid student boycott

Olkan Senemoğlu, a political science lecturer at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, was expelled on 24 April 2026 after a student, G. N. İ., filed a criminal complaint alleging sexual harassment and inappropriate remarks. The university’s higher‑education authority (YÖK) opened an investigation and confirmed that Senemoğlu had previously been suspended three times in 2018‑2019 following complaints from 38 female students.

A court later halted the dismissal, and a subsequent ruling reinstated Senemoğlu to his position despite ongoing protests. Hundreds of students announced a boycott of his classes, and controversy grew when the judge who ordered the reinstatement was reported to be preparing to teach a graduate course. The case has drawn extensive media coverage and sparked debate over university oversight and student safety.
