Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University students document Gallipoli Peninsula
Students from the Photography and Camerawork Program at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Social Sciences Vocational School have conducted a field study at the Gallipoli Peninsula. Under the Scientific Research Project titled ‘One Frame for the Homeland: Young Witnesses of Çanakkale’, students visited various cemeteries, monuments, and museums to capture the historical and spiritual heritage of the Çanakkale Wars through photography and video.
The project, supported by the ÇOMÜ Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit and led by Lecturer Dr. Meral Açıkgöz, aims to investigate how visual production affects students' historical awareness, cultural heritage perception, and professional motivation using scientific methods.
During the 12-hour excursion, students documented historical sites and conducted interviews to create an oral archive for documentary work. The initiative, which included guidance from expert Melih Asaroğlu, plans to culminate in a photography exhibition and the production of a documentary featuring the students' footage and interviews.
