Analog lifestyle trend gains popularity as digital fatigue grows

A growing international trend known as ‘going analog’ is seeing a resurgence in activities such as handwriting, analog photography, knitting, and listening to vinyl records. This movement seeks to reclaim experiences outside the digital world to combat the mental fatigue caused by constant screen exposure.

Neuroscience suggests that manual tasks, such as writing by hand, engage complex cognitive-motor coordination that activates brain networks associated with deep learning, idea synthesis, and long-term memory. Unlike typing, which limits neural activity to specific areas, the physical act of writing stimulates broader brain activity.

Reports indicate that younger generations in North America and Western Europe are increasingly adopting offline hobbies. Practices like journaling allow for uninterrupted thought without digital notifications, while analog photography encourages more intentionality due to the limited nature of film rolls and the delayed gratification of developing images.
