Anambra Governor Soludo targets counterfeit drugs at pharmacy conference

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called for increased collaboration between his administration and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) to combat the circulation of fake and counterfeit drugs. Speaking at the 99th Annual National Conference of the PSN in Awka, Soludo urged the professional body to help identify and eliminate fraudulent outlets posing as registered pharmacies.

Soludo described Anambra as Nigeria’s pharmaceutical capital and highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the development of a dedicated pharmaceutical hub in Oba and a Coordinated Wholesale Centre, both expected to be completed by early 2027.

Regarding healthcare improvements, the governor noted that his administration has revitalized the primary healthcare system and implemented a zero-cost antenatal care programme. This initiative has reportedly benefited over 250,000 pregnant women and supported more than 900 free caesarean deliveries.
