Anambra Governor urges traders to invest in local manufacturing

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on traders and investors to transition from an import-dependent model to local manufacturing to drive economic growth and job creation. Speaking at a stakeholders’ seminar organized by the Importers’ Association of Nigeria (IMAN) and the Anambra Ministry of Commerce in Awka, the governor emphasized the need for the state to evolve from a consumption-driven economy into a manufacturing powerhouse.

Represented by Commerce Commissioner Nonso Ebonwu, Soludo encouraged the younger generation to leverage their international commerce experience to establish domestic industries rather than focusing solely on importing goods. The state administration is supporting this shift through the ‘Made in Anambra’ initiative and the development of an economic free trade zone within the state’s aerotropolis project.

The seminar, themed ‘Securing Trade Corridors and Unlocking Blue Economy Opportunities,’ brought together government officials, security agencies, and regulators. Discussions focused on strengthening trade security, improving infrastructure, and creating a secure, investment-friendly environment to attract private sector participation.
