Anambra High Court denies bail to Harrison Anazodo
The Awka High Court has denied bail to Harrison Anazodo, the alleged General Overseer of Dayspring Assembly, who is facing criminal trial in Anambra State. Anazodo had applied for bail citing health challenges, but presiding Judge Jude Obiora denied the request to prevent potential interference with witnesses. Seven individuals believed to be members of the congregation are expected to testify against him.
During the court proceedings, supporters and church members of Anazodo reportedly attacked journalists and cameramen while attempting to shield him from media coverage. Witnesses reported that the group used umbrellas and hands to block cameras and used a vehicle to push journalists, resulting in damage to several mobile phones.
Anambra State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, condemned the assault, stating that the courtroom is a ‘hallowed place’ and that journalists must be respected. Nweke indicated he would escalate the incident to law enforcement authorities. The matter has been adjourned until October 16th.
