Nigeria police intensify crackdown on unregistered and concealed vehicle plates

Police commands in Anambra, Bauchi and Kogi states have launched coordinated enforcement operations against vehicles with unregistered, concealed, fake or missing number plates. The actions follow directives from Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and are aimed at improving public safety by preventing criminals from using unidentifiable vehicles in kidnappings, armed robbery and other offences.

In Anambra, Police Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga urged motorists to display fully visible registration plates and warned that violations will attract sanctions. Bauchi State deployed mobile courts across its five area commands, empowering rapid prosecution and impoundment of offending vehicles, as announced by PPRO Nafi’u Habib. Kogi State Police Commissioner Naziru Bello Kankarofi ordered officers to impound any vehicle breaching plate regulations and emphasized the need for proper documentation.

The combined state‑wide efforts seek to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance crime prevention and ensure the safety of residents and visitors throughout the affected regions.
