Anambra Police introduce monitoring to curb officer extortion
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, has launched a strategic monitoring mechanism designed to curb extortion, harassment, and professional misconduct by police personnel. The initiative utilizes the Command’s Operational Control Rooms to provide close supervision of police checkpoints, patrol teams, and other field activities across the state.
Developed following feedback from security stakeholder sessions across three senatorial districts, the strategy requires Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders to be held accountable for the conduct of personnel at strategic locations. The command stated that reports of misconduct or exploitation of the public will be monitored and escalated for disciplinary action. Commissioner Ama emphasized that while the command is committed to security, no officer will be permitted to abuse their authority to exploit residents.
