Anambra police kill four armed gang members and seize weapons, explosives

On June 23, police led a Joint Security Patrol Team along the Ogboji‑Ajalli Road in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. The operation resulted in the deaths of four armed gang members after a confrontation with security operatives.

Investigators recovered a cache that included a General Purpose Machine Gun with 53 linked rounds, two AK‑47 rifles, magazines, 21 rounds of 7.62×39 mm ammunition, 13 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, and four undetonated improvised explosive devices. Additional items seized were police camouflage uniforms, a white Toyota Sienna bus, ten Android phones, two feature phones, a laptop, a point‑of‑sale machine, power banks, ATM cards and personal identification documents.

Preliminary reports said other gang members fled into surrounding bushes with varying gunshot injuries. The Joint Security Team said it will continue intensive combing operations to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover further weapons and equipment.
