Anambra State communities petition government over land grabbing

Multiple communities in Anambra State are petitioning the government to intervene in escalating land disputes and alleged land grabbing.

In Idemili North, the Amafor Nkpor Agu Community has appealed to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to investigate the selective demolition of property on what they claim is ancestral land. Community leaders questioned the inclusion of the land in an official gazette and called for a transparent investigation into ownership documents to prevent further escalation. This follows other land-related protests in areas such as Umueze Ogwugwu Oba and Ebenesi.

Simultaneously, residents of Umuenu Quarters in the Umuawulu Community have petitioned the Anambra State Attorney-General, Tobechukwu Nweke. The petitioners allege persistent harassment by land grabbers from the neighboring Enugwu Quarters, which they claim threatens their homes and farms. The community is requesting that the Attorney-General allow an ongoing High Court case regarding the matter to proceed to a conclusion.
