Anambra State government prosecutes couple for child abuse

The Anambra State Government has arraigned a man and his wife for inflicting severe bodily injuries on an 11-year-old minor living in their home. The victim, a house help named Chizitere, was reportedly tortured with heated plastic, resulting in open wounds across his body. Following the incident, the child was allegedly forced to sleep on a bare floor without proper care for his injuries.

The prosecution is being led by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN. This legal action follows public outrage and intervention by the Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, who oversaw the child's medical recovery. The defense has applied for a plea bargain, which the state will review in light of the severity of the abuse.
