Anambra State holds local government elections amid security preparations

As the 2026 Local Government elections take place in Anambra State on Saturday, August 29, the state government has clarified that there are no restrictions on movement. Commissioner for Information Dr. Law Mefor stated that markets, economic activities, and vehicular movements will continue as normal, dismissing rumors that the government or security agencies had issued orders to limit social or public activities.

In preparation for the polls, the Anambra State Police Command has increased security operations across the 21 Local Government Areas. Commissioner of Police Nnanna Oji Ama conducted inspections of police stations and flashpoints to ensure readiness. The Command warned political parties and operatives against any actions that could disrupt the electoral process, emphasizing the need for professionalism, political neutrality, and the protection of citizens' rights during the election.
