Anambra State requests N70bn stabilization fund for security and erosion

Anambra State has requested N70 billion from the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) stabilisation fund to address critical challenges including insecurity, erosion, flooding, and infrastructure deficits.

Secretary to the State Government Chiamaka Nnake presented the case in Abuja, noting that the state faces more than 1,000 erosion sites, with 146 communities affected. Nnake estimated that approximately N170 billion would be required to address identified critical erosion sites. The state also cited insecurity and sit-at-home orders as major factors disrupting commercial activities in economic hubs like Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi, which in turn weakens investor confidence and government revenue.

The RMAFC’s Indices and Disbursement Committee, chaired by Professor Olusegun Wright, has begun a technical review of the request. The committee will scrutinize the state’s financial records, project feasibility, estimated costs, and expected socioeconomic benefits. Wright emphasized that the review process does not constitute automatic approval and must follow established guidelines and availability of resources.
