Anambra student hostel collapse leaves two dead, three rescued
A three‑storey private hostel, the Elite Five Star Lodge, collapsed near the Federal Polytechnic Oko in Amaokpala, Anambra State, on the night of 26 July 2026. The building, which housed around 60‑100 rooms, fell beside Tonimas Filling Station in the Orumba North Local Government Area.
Two occupants – graduate Vivian Chinedum and her fiancé Ifeanyi Stanley – were confirmed dead. Three other occupants were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Residents reported hearing loud cracking sounds before the structure gave way, and a food‑vendor had warned of wall cracks via a WhatsApp group shortly before the collapse.
