Anamola party coordinator Ilídio Facitela found dead after abduction

Ilídio Facitela Gustavo, a 43-year-old political mobilization coordinator for the Anamola party and a member of the Republic of Mozambique Police, was found dead in the Homoine district of Inhambane province. His death follows his abduction on Friday, September 11, from his residence in the Morrumbene district.

Witnesses reported that several men, identifying themselves as police officers and carrying firearms, took Facitela from his home in the presence of his wife and seven-year-old son. Anamola leader Venâncio Mondlane stated that Facitela was a key witness scheduled to testify in his upcoming trial at the Supreme Court.

Mondlane has previously filed complaints with the Attorney General's Office regarding political persecution, citing hundreds of cases of extreme violence against the Anamola party. The incident occurs amid ongoing political tensions in Mozambique following the 2024 presidential election contest.
