Ganesh Visarjan 2026: Main immersion set for September 25

The Hindu festival of Ganesh Utsav concludes with the main Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) on Anant Chaturdashi, falling on September 25, 2026. While the ten-day festival period mathematically ends on September 23, the religious observance is determined by the Hindu Panchang lunar tithis rather than the English calendar. The Chaturdashi tithi begins late on September 24 and continues through September 25, making the latter the primary day for immersion.

Anant Chaturdashi also marks a significant day for the worship of Lord Vishnu's infinite form. Devotees observe rituals such as tying the 'Anant Sutra'—a sacred thread with 14 knots representing 14 worlds—to seek protection and prosperity.

Astrological observations note that the festivities coincide with the Panchak period, which begins on the night of September 23. However, religious experts clarify that Panchak restrictions do not apply to divine worship or ritual immersions. Additionally, Bhadrapada Purnima is observed on September 26, 2026, according to the Udaya tithi, marking the beginning of Pitru Paksha rituals.
