Anant Nag to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award for cinematic contributions

Veteran actor Anant Nag has been selected to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, recognizing his extensive contributions to Indian cinema. The announcement was made by the Government of India following a recommendation from the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee.

Nag, a prominent figure in Kannada cinema with a career spanning five decades and over 300 films, will be presented the honour at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony on September 22, 2026, in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. He is the second Kannada actor to receive this prestigious award, following the late Dr. Rajkumar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the actor, praising his “effortless performances, remarkable versatility and brilliance” that have left a significant mark on the industry. Other political leaders from Karnataka also extended their congratulations, noting the award as a moment of pride for the region.
