Anas Sarwar warns Scottish Labour contenders against infighting

Anas Sarwar, the former leader of the Scottish Labour Party, has characterized the role of Scottish Labour leader as "the hardest job in British politics." Speaking at the Edinburgh Fringe, Sarwar discussed his decision to step down as an MSP after being elevated to the House of Lords and serving as a trade minister.

Sarwar warned the candidates in the upcoming leadership contest—Michael Marra, Joe Fagan, and Monica Lennon—against the dangers of political infighting. He emphasized the importance of party unity and the ability of the new leader to work with the 17 MSPs remaining in the Scottish Parliament following the party's recent election results.

While Sarwar declined to endorse a specific successor, he noted that the party faced difficulties communicating its vision during previous campaigns and has been impacted by wider political scandals.
